Swan Walk in Horsham fully reopened on 1 October, 11 weeks after closing. One unit returns on 5 October; prize lockers run on four dates to 18 October.
Swan Walk shopping centre fully reopened on the morning of Thursday 1 October. It had been closed since 13 July, when a glazing panel in the roof failed.
The centre said the safety netting now fitted across its glazed roof was finished ahead of schedule. Every retailer is back except one: the Horsham District Wellbeing unit, which is due to reopen on Monday 5 October.
Updated 1 October: the centre has fully reopened. Earlier updates on the closure are below.
In a statement carried word for word by the BBC and SussexWorld, a Swan Walk spokesperson said:
“The netting installation programme has run ahead of schedule, and all our retailers have now reopened, with the exception of the Horsham District Wellbeing unit, which will be reopening on Monday 5th October.”
The spokesperson thanked “our retailers, their employees and visitors to the centre for their patience”, along with Horsham District Council and Your Horsham, the town’s business improvement district.
The reopening event: prize lockers on four days
The centre is marking the reopening with a “locker station” on the mosaic at the middle of the mall. The rules, from Swan Walk’s own event page:
- spend £30 or more in any Swan Walk store on the day
- show the receipt at the prize station
- pick a lucky-dip number and open that locker for a prize from one of the centre’s retailers
It runs from 11am to 4pm on four days:
| Day | Date |
|---|---|
| Thursday | 1 October |
| Thursday | 8 October |
| Saturday | 17 October |
| Sunday | 18 October |
What is new since July
One new shop opened while the centre was coming back. Rituals, the bath, body and home fragrance brand, is now open; the spokesperson said it opened last week. The centre’s full store list is the place to check a particular shop before a trip.
How the closure unfolded
Swan Walk shut on 13 July on safety grounds. On 13 August the centre said “an external projectile was responsible for the issue with our glazing panels”. It ordered safety netting to be installed throughout the glazed area, and said reopening would be phased.
The council moved quickly to keep displaced traders working. On 17 July it offered market stalls free of charge to Swan Walk businesses. Natural Body Company and Gobsmack Comics took pitches in the Carfax, and The Linen Shop and Aura Crystals in West Street and the Bishopric. (Horsham District Council, 17 July 2026)
On 22 July the council and Your Horsham BID set up a town centre response team. Swan Walk, Crickmay Chartered Surveyors, the market operators, Coden Events, Food Rocks South and Horsham Town Council sat on it. (Horsham District Council, 22 July 2026)
The centre came back in stages. By 14 September, the latest phase had reopened the shops around the mosaic. Swan Walk’s update that day named these retailers among them (Your Horsham BID):
- iCrack, Mr Boba Tea and Select Travel
- The Fragrance Shop, Maisie & Ellen and EE
- Classic Suits, Major Mindgames and Sports Direct
- Regis, Grape Tree and The Framing Centre
- The Linen Cupboard, Divine Brow Bar and Gobsmack Comics
Earlier in the closure, Marks & Spencer and Boots were reachable from the Carfax, and Next and the Post Office in T.G. Jones through the car park entrance.
What it means for you
You can walk through Swan Walk again from the Carfax as normal. If you need the Horsham District Wellbeing service, it is the one unit not open until Monday 5 October.
The Swan Walk car park is run by Horsham District Council, not the centre, and the BID confirms access to all levels is open as normal. Our guide to parking in Horsham has the tariffs for it and the other town-centre car parks.
If you are planning a bigger shop anyway, doing it on 8, 17 or 18 October puts you in line for a locker prize. The rest of what is on in town is in our things to do in Horsham guide.
